I'm in a writing frenzy today, so shall post another entry for my fans, like Pui my ardent fan. Muahahahaaa. See pui aren't u honoured that i've mentioned u in this blog.

Watched Anthologies of Love on Ch 5 2 days back. Though quite amateurish in the acting and production, the basic premise of the show was really quite good. It touched on the various ways in which we Singaporeans express love, or rather, the lack of. What especially touched me was the theme of "too late." U will understand what i mean after reading this entry lar.

An abusive traditional husband who expected his wife to serve him dinner every nite and obey his every whim and fancy. No disobedience or deviance from his orders were allowed. Then, when the son grew up, he rebelled against his dad and brought his mum to stay somewhere else, leaving the dad to stay alone and eat luncheon meat with bread everyday. The sad part is that the mum kena Alzheimers. Then she cannot remember anything at all. The most touching scene was of the dad, quietly tearing by her hospital bedside, and trying to get her to remember their past together, and asking for her forgiveness for all the things he had done. Then carrying her out to his trishaw, and ferrying her to the place where they fell in love. She finally regained enough consciousness to mutter: "Ah Huat, is that u? Why your hair so long? I cut for u lar..." She later died in his arms. Too late.

We see a boy frantically running around Singapore in his school uniform to take many many photos of the buildings and monuments that make Singapore unique. Later, we learn that he's doing this cos his sister is going overseas to study, and he is afraid, in all his naivety, that she would forget Singapore, and of course, him. The photos are thus his way of ensuring that his sister would always have something to remember Singapore by. It is this innocence, and his seemingly useless and puerile attempt at retaining the love of his sister that led me to this musing...

Like the boy, we all have done pretty silly things for love as well, be it to attract the love of our parents or to attract that love of your life. We do many many things in the hope that by doing so, the other party would like us better, or at least notice our existence. But like the boy, we sometimes do not know the puerile-ness of our activities until we view them from hindsight, or behind the TV screen. We might very well have behaved as childishly as the boy.

Ultimately, because the boy spent so much time taking the photos and developing them, his sister left without him having the chance to say a final goodbye. The most poignant and sad scene was when the boy gazed at that one photo that truly mattered to him: the one he took with his sister at home. Subtle, yet heart-achingly accurate in its depiction of "too late." Again, how many times have we wasted our time doing things for the ppl we like, or simply trying to get their attention, that we simply neglect to treasure the present...

Wow i'm like super sentimental tonite rite? Haa...Bet u guys din expect it frm me. Guess the point i just want to put across is this ba:

Carpe Diem.
